# Smart blur

### What is smart blur?

Smart Blur allows you to automatically blur or redact sensitive information, such as emails, names, prices, or personal data, while recording a Supademo.

It’s especially helpful when capturing dashboards, CRMs, analytics tools, or any app containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Rather than manually editing each slide, Smart Blur detects and hides sensitive content in real-time, saving you time and ensuring viewer safety and professionalism.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Smart Blur is currently only supported when using the **Supademo Chrome Extension**.
{% endhint %}

**Here's an overview of how to use Smart Blur:**

{% @supademo/embed demoId="cm0r28g000dgzk62w5arwsckf" url="<https://app.supademo.com/demo/cm0r28g000dgzk62w5arwsckf>" %}

* To enable Smart Blur, open the **Supademo Chrome Extension** and toggle on **“Smart Blur”** before starting your recording. Once enabled, Smart Blur will automatically detect and blur common patterns like emails, numbers, and currency values during the capture process.
* Proceed to record your Supademo as usual—Smart Blur will run in the background and apply redaction automatically.

### Select & blur custom elements

You can also select **custom elements** to blur before or during a Supademo recording. Here's a quick walkthrough of how to use the select & blur functionality:

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.supademo.com/create/by-demo-type/guided-screenshot-and-video-demos/smart-blur.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
