# Recording Has No Audio

Fix silent Supademo screen recordings: unmute the mic in the recorder, pick the right input device, and grant Chrome and macOS microphone permissions.

Your Supademo screen recording captured the video perfectly, but playback is silent — no narration, no system sound, or the microphone track is missing entirely. Audio problems almost always come from one of three layers: the recorder's own mute and device settings, the browser's microphone permission, or the operating system's privacy permissions. Check them in that order.

## Common causes and fixes

1. **The microphone was muted in the recorder.** Clicking the mic icon in the Supademo recorder mutes your recording, and no audio is captured at all — it's the single most common cause of silent recordings. Fix: before hitting Record, confirm the mic icon isn't in its muted state, and speak a test phrase in a short trial recording.
2. **The wrong input device is selected.** The recorder setup lets you choose which microphone and camera to use. If it's pointed at a device that isn't receiving sound — a disconnected headset, a muted external interface, AirPods that switched away — the track records silence. Fix: in the recorder's setup, select the microphone you're actually speaking into, and check the device's own hardware mute switch.
3. **Chrome doesn't have microphone access for Supademo.** If you dismissed or denied the browser's mic prompt, Chrome blocks the input without further warnings. Fix: click the lock/tune icon in the address bar on the recording page, set **Microphone** to **Allow**, then reload and re-record. You can also check `chrome://settings/content/microphone` for a block entry.
4. **macOS hasn't granted screen recording and microphone permissions.** On macOS, Chrome itself needs permission before any site or extension can capture your screen or mic. Fix: open **System Settings → Privacy & Security**, enable your browser under both **Microphone** and **Screen Recording**, then quit and reopen the browser — macOS only applies these permissions after a restart of the app.
5. **System audio wasn't enabled for the recording.** Narration and computer audio are separate: when starting a recording you choose whether to record your computer's audio. If you skipped that option, in-app sounds and video audio won't be on the track. Fix: enable the computer audio option in the recorder before recording. When picking what to share, choosing a Chrome tab and ticking **Also share tab audio** is the most reliable way to capture in-page sound.
6. **Another app is holding the microphone.** Zoom, Meet, Teams, or other recording software can claim exclusive access to the mic, leaving nothing for the browser. Fix: quit conferencing and recording apps fully, then start the Supademo recording again.

If the recording is otherwise good, you don't have to redo it: you can trim or split the clip with the built-in editor, or add a voiceover afterwards instead of re-recording — see [Screen and Camera Recording](https://docs.supademo.com/create/by-demo-type/screen-and-camera-recording) for the editing tools.

## Still not working?

Email [**support@supademo.com**](mailto:support@supademo.com) with a link to the silent recording, your operating system and browser version, and the microphone you were using. A screenshot of the recorder's device settings helps the team spot the mismatch quickly. For general questions, see the [FAQs](https://docs.supademo.com/welcome/faqs).
